“Queer Pride for Black Lives: a Virtual Variety Benefit Show” is a virtual drag show featuring entertainers from all over the country who are donating their time, talent, and tips to raise money for various Black-led organizations. But showcasing the talent of our drag community is just the beginning; this event encourages people from around the country to gather virtually as we shine a light on the queer and trans Black lives we have lost, and strive to give back to some Black led organizations that embody the phrase “All Black Lives Matter.”
In the journey for the equal rights for queer folks, Black queer and trans revolutionaries have always been at the forefront. From Stormé Delavarie and Marsha P. Johnson, to Raquel Willis and the co-founders of Black Lives Matter, queer Black people have been at the helm of supporting equity and justice in this country. “Queer Pride for Black Lives” aims to continue the work of those before us, by providing a platform to spread awareness of, and advocate for, the fundamentally important Black Lives Matter movement.
The shows boast the talent of a diverse platform of artists including Miss Arizona Continental: Eva Angelica Stratton, Mr. US of A MI Classic: Freddy Prinze, Mr. Supreme Pride: Commander Sins, and the Reigning Gay Male Entertainer of the year: Teddy Michael.
The event is produced by Haus of Monejé, a partnership comprised of a Black lesbian couple who are each artists and former entertainers. It will be hosted online by Full Tilt Social Club, an independent online event venue, and will showcase art by Armageddon Beachparty of Detroit, Michigan. The creators aim to bring together a community of people with a unified goal; to encourage change and education through the support of some incredible organizations as well as, of course, to have the absolute best time doing so.
The double-feature, showcasing two different lineups, will stream live this Friday, June 12th at 8pm EDT and 10pm EDT. Ticketholders will receive an email with a unique link to join the show live on Zoom. Or, watch the live stream at twitch.tv/fulltiltsocial. A separate ticket is required for each show.
All proceeds from the event will go to support organizations including Foundation for Black Heritage and Culture, I Am Human Foundation, Black Visions Collective, the Nina Pop Mental Health Recovery Fund, and the Tony McDade Mental Health Recovery Fund.
